Meet Kalie

Kalie is a certified dog trainer and canine behaviorist.

Prior to attending a balanced training program offered through Starmark Academy for Professional Dog Trainers, Kalie spent two and a half years caring for a variety of multiple dogs in her home.

Kalie graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a dual bachelor degree in Spanish Language and English Literature, while also receiving a certification to teach Spanish. As a former high school Spanish teacher, Kalie knows how hard it can be to learn to communicate in a language that isn’t your own. She believes that bridging the communication barrier between owners and their dogs is key. There are many trainers who are excellent with dogs, and there are many trainers who are excellent with people – but Kalie’s skills with both dogs and people, in addition to having taught students ways to learn and interpret a new language, make her a unique blend of a teacher-trainer that is hard to find.

A dog trainer is not just a person who trains dogs to follow specific commands.

A dog trainer is an individual who also teaches a dog owner to better understand his or her dog, be a better leader, and apply the best techniques in a timely manner so the dog can learn to be a great companion and family member. Dog ownership is a privilege, and a trusting relationship between both the owner and the dog can yield years of valuable companionship. A good dog trainer is a teacher to both humans and canines – one who is patient, realistic in expectations, and fair. The goal of a dog trainer should be to help a dog and its owner live a more fulfilled and content life together.

Kalie was inspired to become a dog trainer by her former dog, Jade. At eight weeks of age from an “oops” litter, Jade came into Kalie’s life after she had suddenly lost her dog, Kai. Jade was there through some significant life changes, and was a constant companion and friend. Jade was almost 14 years old when, in 2018, her quality of life diminished gradually over a short two-week period and she was found to have age-related health issues that she would not be able to overcome. She will forever miss Jade, but Kalie gained a huge appreciation for the impact a dog can have in one’s life. Kalie’s current dogs are both rescues she was assigned to train while at Starmark Academy. Zeus, a goofy and loving pitbull boxer mix, and Minnie, a precocious and intelligent German shepherd mix, gave Kalie insight into training different types of dogs and understanding their unique personalities.

Kalie lives in San Antonio, Texas with her love, Philip, and their son, Johnny. She is overjoyed to offer her dog training services and assist both dog owners and their canines.
